Project Outing

On the 15th of May, Tuesday night, my project had a project outing in 1U. The total turn out were 32 people including our Accenture team and the Maxis employees. The plan was to have dinner at Italianies and later have 2 games of bowling. The overall budget allocated was RM1500.

In dinner, we had 2 tables to accommodate 16 people each and we each have 8 dishes (4 pastas, 4 pizzas). However due to the fact that there is a vegetarian and someone not being able to eat beef, none of the dishes have beef in it and many were just vegetarian while some have chickens in it. Oh well, it’s still better than nothing. The final pasta which is the carbonara was the best of all. It’s filling and just very nice. Haha!

Off to bowling we went. The organizer said something about a gift for the best team as well as a gift for the best male player as well as be female player. We had about 8 lanes with 4 people per lane. My name was on the top of the list for my lane and thus I had to start first.

Having not played for like 3 years or so (last played was in Monash first year). So it started with my usual strategy which is to start from the right and bowl the ball to the middle. I decided to use this strategy after looking at those animations on the screen where there is this arrow pointing to the pins as to how it should be hit. I noticed that the arrow is always at an angle to hit the head pin. If you throw the ball straight from the middle and hit the headpin straight, odds are that you will get a split or what I call a goal post. It will be left with 2 pins with 1 on each side.

So if the ball comes from the right to the middle, its heading to the left and if it hits the head pin, chances are that all will fall. If not it will bring down 9 and remain 1 at the most corner of the lane. The problem is that I can't really aim it that well and even though I start from the right, it can sometimes go too much to the left or sometimes just go straight and I will get either 1 pin or 3 pins. Not the result I hope for.

However that night was pretty good for me. In the 2 games, I had a total of 4 strikes and a spare while the rest is about 7-9 pins. The score for the first game was 103 and the second 124 bringing the total to 227 in 2 games. This is actually the few times I crossed 100. Obviously I did not get any gifts/prize as I'm not the best there nor did I help my team much in achieving the best team score. But it’s still a personal high score for me. It was good... :)
